Role
Located in the North Satellite of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Skillet is a modern diner that brings Seattle’s culinary flair to travelers. Originally launched as a food truck, the brand now offers elevated comfort food in a relaxed, full-service setting tailored to passengers on the go.
Challenge
The design needed to capture Skillet’s recognizable brand identity within the constraints of an airport environment—balancing warmth, efficiency, and durability while meeting strict operational and security requirements.
Solution
The concept translated Skillet’s urban, approachable aesthetic into a cohesive airport experience, blending comfort and speed in a space that feels distinctly Seattle.
Materials + Craft
The interior design draws directly from Skillet’s origins as an Airstream-based food truck, translating the tactile language of mobile kitchens into a permanent airport setting. Polished metal surfaces, ribbed textures, and streamlined forms reference classic camping trailers, while grounded materials and honest detailing evoke the Pacific Northwest’s blue-collar sensibility. Warm woods, durable laminates, and graphic accents inspired by flannel patterns and workwear colors balance industrial toughness with approachability. All materials were selected for durability, cleanability, and longevity within a high-traffic environment, resulting in a space that feels authentic to the brand—equal parts road trip nostalgia, working-class grit, and modern diner comfort.
