Role
Located in Seattle's desirable Madison Valley neighborhood, this townhome remodel reimagines one of the early condominium units designed by Fred Bassetti—an icon of Washington's pioneering multi-unit housing from the late 1970's.
Challenge
In this remodel, the design intent was to honor the building's original architectural lineage, while transforming a single unit into a thoroughly modern dwelling, enriched with refined details and elevated performance.
Solution
SCR converted a previously unused attic space into a loft, significantly increasing functional flexibility for guests or use a an elevated home-office. Clean wood trim was introduced throughout to provide a tactile counterpoint to the crisp moderin finishes.
The mechanical strategy was entirely upgraded: electric in-slab radient floor heating supports a clean ceiling line and consistent thermal comfort, while new skylights and a roof window flood the narrow volume with daylight, visually expanding the 1,540 sq ft space and connecting to the tree-lined context.
Materials + Craft
A fresh material palette reinforces the contemporary aesthetic—every finish was replaced, and the unit now features refined joinery and a streamlined trim concept that cultivates a seamless, cohesive visual identity.
