Role
Located within the former U.S. Naval Training Center at Liberty Station, this 181-room hotel draws inspiration from San Diego’s aviation heritage to create a sleek, efficient, and uplifting hospitality experience.
Challenge
As the first custom hotel within the resort, the project required a clear architectural vision that balanced brand identity, guest experience, and historical context. The challenge was to establish a modern destination rooted in the site’s military and coastal legacy while meeting the operational needs of a contemporary hospitality environment.
Solution
SCR shaped the project’s early vision through massing studies, feasibility analysis, and concept design, defining the spatial framework and architectural character. The two-story lobby evokes an aircraft hangar, with exposed timber trusses, butterfly roofs, and large operable doors that blur the boundary between indoors and out.
Materials + Craft
Clean, contrasting façades and aviation-inspired interiors pair modern efficiency with tactile warmth. Exposed structural elements, durable finishes, and custom artwork celebrate San Diego’s aviation and maritime history, resulting in a hotel that feels both purposeful and personal—rooted in place yet designed for forward motion.
