Role
LaValle House is a comprehensive renovation of a brick Tudor residence enveloped by a serene Japanese garden. The home serves as the primary residence of lifestyle influencer and designer Coco Kelley, who collaborated closely on the interior design, bringing a refined, contemporary sensibility to a historically rooted structure.
Challenge
The project required a careful balance between architectural restraint and expressive interior design. The challenge was to modernize the main living spaces and basement while respecting the home’s Tudor character and its strong relationship to the surrounding garden. The architecture needed to provide a quiet framework that would support layered interiors without overwhelming the home’s historic presence.
Solution
SCR undertook a full reimagining of the main floor and a complete basement renovation, improving flow, light, and livability throughout the home. Bright, white interiors were used as a unifying canvas, allowing curated décor, art, and interior plantings to bring warmth and contrast. Views and connections to the Japanese garden were carefully preserved and emphasized, reinforcing a sense of calm and enclosure.
Materials + Craft
Clean detailing and custom elements provide clarity and cohesion across the renovated spaces, while the home’s brick exterior and traditional proportions remain intact. Thoughtful material selections, layered textures, and restrained architectural interventions allow the interiors to feel both modern and deeply personal. The result is a residence that harmonizes historic architecture, contemporary design, and landscape—an elegant, lived-in home shaped by collaboration and intention.
