Role
Set along Key West’s only private natural sand beach, The Reach Hotel offered an opportunity to craft interiors that reflect the relaxed elegance, vibrant culture, and coastal ease of the island. The design balances resort comfort with a strong sense of place, creating spaces that feel both effortlessly casual and quietly refined—an inviting retreat steps from Duval Street, the Southernmost Point, and Key West’s historic core.
Challenge
The primary challenge was to design interiors that could withstand the demands of a high-traffic beachfront resort while capturing the spirit of Key West’s tropical environment and storied history. Spaces needed to feel light, breezy, and welcoming, yet durable enough to support guests moving seamlessly between beach, water sports, and the city’s energetic social life. The design also had to complement the hotel’s prime location—close to major landmarks—without competing with the surrounding context.
Solution
The interior design approach emphasized openness, natural light, and fluid connections between indoor and outdoor spaces. Guest rooms and shared areas were conceived as calm, restorative environments, offering visual relief from the vibrant activity just outside the hotel doors. Circulation and furnishings were carefully considered to support easy movement from beach to room to public spaces, reinforcing the hotel’s role as both an active basecamp and a place to unwind.
Craft + Materials
A palette of coastal textures and finishes grounds the interiors in their tropical setting. Light-toned materials, natural fibers, and subtly layered textures evoke sand, water, and sun without feeling literal. Durable finishes and thoughtfully selected furnishings balance resort performance with tactile warmth, resulting in interiors that feel relaxed, resilient, and unmistakably rooted in Key West’s island character.
