Role
Located in Seattle’s Montlake neighborhood, this full-home renovation reimagines a classic residence as a refined, contemporary living environment. The project draws inspiration from the character and proportion of historic Seattle homes while introducing a more open, cohesive layout tailored to modern family life.
Challenge
The existing four-bedroom, three-bath home required a comprehensive transformation to improve flow, functionality, and livability across all levels—including a previously underutilized basement. The design needed to balance openness with a sense of warmth and intimacy, while respecting the home’s original character and integrating modern systems and expectations.
Solution
The remodel introduces a reworked floor plan that enhances connectivity between primary living spaces while maintaining clear zones for privacy and retreat. The basement level was fully re-envisioned as usable living space, extending the home’s program and creating a more complete vertical experience. Throughout, the design carefully calibrates openings, circulation, and spatial relationships to support both everyday living and gathering.
Materials + Craft
A restrained and cohesive material palette brings clarity and continuity to the home. Clean-lined millwork, warm wood tones, and thoughtfully detailed transitions create a quiet backdrop for daily life. Finishes were selected for durability and timelessness, with an emphasis on proportion, alignment, and subtle craftsmanship—resulting in a home that feels both modernized and deeply rooted in its original context.
